Frequently Asked Questions
Typically, team members range from 16-99 (although swimming enthusiasts who are 100+ are also welcome to apply!) However, each Aqua-Tots Swim Schools location determines hiring age based on their state and local guidelines. Please check with your local school to learn more about their minimum age requirement.
Swim instructors, water watchers, deck supervisors and aquatic managers must be CPR certified in order to work with children around the water. While some Aqua-Tots Swim Schools locations require you to obtain this certification yourself, other locations include CPR certification as part of their training process. Additional training or qualifications may be required depending on location. In addition, all employees working in the water must obtain the Aqua-Tots Water Safety Instructor Certification prior to teaching lessons. But don’t worry about that—we’ll train you!
We love to hear from people who will sing your praises! We recommend listing coaches, teachers, religious leaders, family friends, neighbors and babysitting references. Please avoid immediate family members. (We already know your mom loves you!)
You sure do! All team members working in the water wear a rash guard, shorts and a swimming suit. This helps students and parents know who is qualified to be in the water. Our front desk team wears an Aqua-Tots polo or t-shirt to visually tell parents, “Hi there! If you have questions, we’ve got the answers!” Rash guards, polos and t-shirts are provided by your local school.
We know that swimming can be tiring, so most part-time shifts are approximately four to five hours. School managers also understand that life, school and home require flexibility sometimes and can offer shorter shifts when needed, but that varies by location.
We hear you, “Show me the money!” Aqua-Tots Swim Schools locations offer competitive pay, and precise hourly rates vary by location. This is a great question to ask during your interview.
The good news is that Aqua-Tots' pools are only four feet deep, and you should be able to comfortably stand in the water. However, throughout the Water Safety Instructor Certification process, you will be trained on how to showcase the skills you’ll be teaching. For those who are not comfortable in the water, the front desk is a great place to “get your feet wet” with Aqua- Tots.
Absolutely! Encourage all of your friends to apply; if they’re a good fit for Aqua-Tots, we’d love to have them join the family, too!
Once you’ve completed an application, it will be reviewed by the management team at your local Aqua-Tots. If they are hiring and feel as though you would be a good fit, they’ll contact you for an interview. Once hired, you will receive 40-50 hours of paid training to make sure you are well-equipped to safely serve your community.
It would look like a lot of fun, friends, high fives and hard work! During a four-hour shift, you will teach up to eight swim lessons (think of all the little lives you would be impacting!!) You’ll also offer parents feedback after lessons, answer questions, help with daily cleaning tasks and pool chemical checks. Plus, you’ll be bonding with the most amazing co-workers around. It really is the best job ever!

Swim Instructor
I started working at Aqua-Tots in 2019 after one of my closest friends recommended it to me. We’re now roommates and work together as master instructors. My favorite thing about Aqua-Tots is the noticeable impact I have on the lives of my students. I love sharing the excitement of swim lessons while simultaneously teaching them valuable lifesaving skills.

I joined Aqua-Tots in 2020 as a sophomore in college. I wanted a part-time job that was flexible around my school schedule. Now a senior, I’m still enjoying every second of it. Every day I get to have fun with kids before and after their lesson. I love my job because I get to see the excitement parents have as their child shows progress. It’s rewarding to know we are truly making an impact on families.
Elias
Aquatic Manager
I joined the Aqua-Tots family in 2018 when I was 23. I started as a swim instructor, worked my way up to aquatic manager and am finishing training to become a master instructor trainer. My favorite part of the job is teaching rambunctious, funny Level 3 kiddos. I originally applied because I love teaching, now I get to teach children and know that I’m making a valuable impact on their lives.

I had the pleasure of joining Aqua-Tots in 2017 and little did I know how much it would change my life. At 21, I had no idea where to go. Ever since joining, I’ve been challenged in the best ways and have grown as a person as well as gained lifelong friendships. Every day, I am inspired by the determination of these kids, their families and my staff’s passion. I cannot imagine being anywhere else!

I began my Aqua-Tots journey as a freshman in college, and I have loved it every single day! I love the welcoming atmosphere and being greeted with a hug and a smile. As an education major, I’m able to advocate for water safety while working with families, and I plan to work here for the next two years to prepare for student teaching. Through Aqua-Tots, I have met my best friends and found a place I love!
Frankie
Office Manager
My journey at Aqua-Tots began in 2021, and I have quickly discovered my love for the staff and community. I was first interested in Aqua-Tots because of my experience as a swim team coach and wanted to further uplift the importance of water safety. Building relationships with our families and getting to know the students is my favorite part of the job, and I’m incredibly lucky to be working with an amazing team.

I began my journey at Aqua-Tots when I was 17. The culture has been amazing, and they have invested so much to help me grow and develop leadership qualities. What I love most about the job is interacting with funny kids and knowing that I’m teaching them lifesaving water skills. Any job at Aqua-Tots is engaging, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to get out of their comfort zone and try new things.

District Manager
I joined the Aqua-Tots team in 2013 as a part-time swim instructor. I quickly fell in love with the upbeat environment, goofy kiddos, my co-workers and the relationships. I was soon promoted to aquatic manager, then general manager. I relocated from the Midwest to California and became a district manager. I continue to be amazed and grateful for the experiences and opportunities Aqua-Tots has afforded me.

My journey started at 18 years old when I fell in love with the concept of providing kids with lessons that teach them lifesaving skills. Aqua-Tots has granted me a positive, flexible, fun work environment. I love that my job never has a dull moment and that interacting with children is a new, fun experience each time.
Mikaela
Swim Instructor
I have been working at Aqua-Tots for seven months, and I absolutely love it. I have so much fun working at Aqua-Tots because I love being in the water and grew up swimming! My favorite thing about working here is teaching the kids how to swim and building relationships. It’s a lot of work, but at the end of the day, seeing the smiles on the kids and families’ faces makes the job worth it!
